Vidyartha College had to dig deep to defeat a spirited D.S Senanayake side 32-19 in their Singer Inter-school under-20 division I-Group A match played at Air Force grounds, Ratmalana yesterday.
The first half saw D.S approach the game with intent and as a consequence they led 19-17 at half time, but the finish was missing which allowed the ‘Tigers’ to crawl their way back with two unanswered tries in the second half. Vidyartha scored through 5 tries, 2 conversions and a penalty while D.S had to settle for 3 tries and 2 conversions.
Ashan Bandara and Captain Jason Dissanayake-who pocketed 12 points from the game-touched down twice each and Viduranga Ramawickrama completed the try count for Vidyartha and Chamath Fernando was on hand to convert one try and put over a penalty. For D.S, the trio of A.Ranasinghe, T. Dharmasena and Gayan Dilshan ensured they won the first half honours.
D.S doesn’t receive the bonus point since they only scored three tries and they retain 9th place unless St.Anthony’s can stun St.Peter’s today. Vidyartha have space to work with now since Science suffered their fourth loss of the season and the tigers are more than likely to be the 5th come the end of the season. (CP)
