Vidyartha College, Kandy won the National Schools Games under 15 boys chess championship for the second year running by winning the competition 5-1 in the championship organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Chess Association and the Ministry of Education and worked off at the Badulla College Auditorium.
Vidyartha College secured a total of 28 points which is a record at this level of the chess championship. On their success march they beat Mahajana College (Jaffna 5-1), Dharmaraja College (4 1/2 – 1 ½), Royal College, Colombo (4-2), Nalanda College (5-1), Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda (4 1/2 – 1 ½) and Kingswood college (5-1).
The team was captained by D.M.T.K. Kulasekera and coached by L.V. Mudalige with J.B. Kumarasinghe as the Master In Charge.
