It was only a year later that a bunch of determined die hard old boys sought the services of Anil Jayasinghe. Vidyartha overcome Mahanama

Vidyartha had to pull all the tricks out of the bag before scoring a wafer thin 37 points (1 goal, 6 tries) to 36 (3 goals, 3 tries) win over Mahanama College, Colombo, in their school’s under 19 Division One Segment B Rugby tournament match played at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium, Kandy yesterday.

The reputation of a school depends either on its physical resources or on the teachers and its students or educational standards and extracurricular activities with sports taking pride of place. There are however, very few schools which could boast of a mix of all the said qualities. Vidyartha College, Kandy is one school that can be proud to be the category, mentioned above. While inheriting a rich heritage of excellence in the past 65 years of its existence, the school came into being as a result of the Buddhist hierarchy in Kandy deciding to purchase the buildings of the former Kings College which closed.

Vidyartha Wins the Youth Boxing Championship 2011

The four-day event which kicked off on the April 2, concluded in favour of Vidyartha College in Kandy as its boxing team emerged champions and took hold of the Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya Shield with 22 points in their territory. The Champion team from the hill capital had topped five weight classes out of 10, in this year's tournament.
